February update from the Commissioner

New financial help for small businesses and exciting events in March

17 February, 2022

Applications have now opened for the NSW Government’s Small Business Support package, which provides financial assistance to primarily small businesses who continue to face financial pressure associated with COVID-19. The package will provide up to $5,000 per week to eligible businesses, paid as a lump sum for four (4) weeks.

Also a reminder that small business tenants can still ask their landlords for rent relief under the COVID leasing regulations up until 13 March. This has been a vital pressure valve for the small business sector, with the Commission still experiencing record demand for our mediation service from tenants seeking relief.

I’m excited about the arrival of NSW Small Business Month, which kicks off on 1 March. Event registration is now open and I strongly encourage you to head to the website and browse the more than 200 events being held across the State.

The goal is not just to help small businesses rebuild from the past two years but also help them to build for the future and innovate.

Small Business Month might provide you with new and better ways of doing business or provide you with new ideas to make your business more successful or resilient. Most events are free and, conveniently, many will be held online this year.

For more information please check out the Small Business Month website.

I hope to see you at an event.
