Applications for “Priority Status” need to be submitted before 20 September 2022 to your current domain name registrar or via participating auDA accredited registrars.
If you don’t apply for Priority Status, your matching .au direct domain name will become available for registration by the general public after the Priority Allocation Process ends.
auDA, the administrator of the “.au” domain said over 3.5 million .au domains had been registered since the initiative launched, with the .au domain servers receiving more than 3 billion online queries per day from people connecting to Australian .au websites and email addresses.
auDA said that websites with .au domain names were recognised as local and helped websites rank higher in Internet search results for Internet users in Australia. It said businesses must also meet strict requirements in order to register a .au domain name, and as a result experience significantly lower levels of domain abuse such as phishing or malware than the global average.
