June update from the Commissioner

This Small Business Month features 7 themes to help owners strengthen their business

28 June, 2023

The NSW Small Business Month program is kicking off for another year, with applications now open for grants to help organisations host events in October.

Business chambers, industry groups, councils and not for profits can apply for a grant to help them host an event that supports small business. Applications close on 1 August. You can also host an unsubsidised event by applying to become a Small Business Month collaboration partner.

The theme this year is “My Small Business” which focuses attention on practical advice that can help small businesses address common issues in their business, in areas such as branding, doing business online and managing your team.

I encourage organisations to get on board and support this important program of events, particularly at a time when small businesses are facing considerable challenges in an uncertain economic environment.

I also encourage you to take a look at the Government’s new grants and funding finder tool. Too many businesses miss out on government assistance because they don’t know about all the program available or wrongly believe they aren’t eligible for a specific grant.

It’s a similar message when it comes to taxes. Make sure you take advantage of any tax breaks and avoid being tripped up by changes to the rules.
