March 2025 update from the Commission

The Commission is pleased to release our 2024 Annual Report. In 2024, small businesses continued to face ongoing uncertainty and a difficult trading environment. The Commission continues to evolve our services to meet these changing needs. More information about the Commission’s activities across its work in advocacy, mediation and engagement are highlighted in the report.  

Many of our Northern Rivers small businesses are recovering from the impact of ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred. The Commission encourages small businesses to prepare for the unexpected, including natural disasters and other business interruptions. The NSW Small Business Commission has a range of resources to assist small businesses to prepare and respond to natural disasters. We encourage all small businesses to review their business continuity plans and consider ways to mitigate and manage risks. 

The latest Momentum Survey has shown a stabilisation in confidence levels between January and February 2025, with small business confidence increasing by one percentage point to 25 per cent.  

The Australian Government’s 2025–26 Budget was released on 25 March. Find out more about how the Budget could impact your business, including industry-specific initiatives for the year ahead.

  • Kai Ellman and Restaurant By Kai which embraces cultural diversity to bring a new product offering to market. Kai says to embrace your unique culture and leverage what you have to offer, particularly to get creative and don’t be afraid to bring it to the Australian market.
