Blacktown City Council – GreenMoney

Background

Blacktown City Council’s GreenMoney initiative is a ‘rewards program for the environment’ designed and implemented by Blacktown City Council through GreenBe, a Sydney-based cloud software provider.

Implementation

Upon activating their household account, Blacktown City households earn points for recycling more and ‘living green’. Residents can redeem their points for rewards at businesses around the local government area.

For local Blacktown businesses, GreenMoney provides an opportunity to:

  • Set up a free digital promotion via their website
  • Attract new local customers, generate foot traffic and increase sales.
  • 24/7 online access to customer analytics and redemptions.
  • Connect with Blacktown City Council.

Outcomes and results

Since the start of the program in 2015, GreenMoney has helped to: generate over 13,500 business offers redeemed by local customers, contributing to $560,000 to the local economy and promote businesses customers. In addition, a local business survey of GreenMoney reward partners indicated that:

  • 100% of businesses felt it was extremely important that council recognises and rewards local businesses.
  • 100% said GreenMoney has helped them to better market their business.
  • 67% felt more connected to Blacktown City Council since joining.

Making a connection with customers is an ongoing struggle for many small businesses. As the costs of traditional advertising continue to rise for little in return, the time and effort involved simply isn’t worth it for many.  This program and local customer base has made a big difference to the businesses involved.

Caffe Rosa is one of 78 business rewards featured on Blacktown GreenMoney.

The GreenMoney team helped Caffe Rosa set up their first promotion and display it to residents across Blacktown City, who jumped at the opportunity to redeem the offer of a ‘buy one coffee, get one free’ reward. Soon after, the business owner set up a second reward on the platform to promote an early bird 50% off breakfast special.

With customer data available 24/7 on Blacktown’s digital GreenMoney Business Centre platform, managing and measuring the success of the promotions is instantaneous – rewards are created, edited and activated all through Caffe Rosa’s online business account.

Caffe Rosa’s rewards have been featured to over 18,000 residents on Blacktown’s GreenMoney household platform, as well as in promotional emails to households. This has saved the business hundreds in advertising, making Caffe Rosa more connected than ever with its local community.

According to Ram Kishor, the business owner, “GreenMoney is working. People of Blacktown are coming to Caffe Rosa and other local businesses and claiming the GreenMoney”.
